"The technical reasons why we love the sound of tubes are actually few and not at all mysterious. The truth of the matter is that tube tone and dynamics are entirely achievable using analog transistor circuits. We developed our techniques to do this over 10 years ago and we have been using them in our products for over 5 years."
George Kay - QES Chief Engineer/Co-Founder
George and Debra Kay also have a musical duo called "The Retrofiers" playing mostly covers of 60s and 70s pop/rock - Beatles, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Moody Blues, Link Wray, Al Stewart, Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Platters, Blues, even some classic country (Patsy Cline etc.).
The Retrofiers perform mostly in Port Townsed WA and on the Olympic Peninsula in general. They are however available to perform in most locations at various venues such as house concerts, parties, wineries, coffee shops, etc.
The recordings used in our demo track were made in rehearsal by directly connecting George's guitar to a Retrofier™ Roadtripper Warm Glow™ pedal, Deb's bass into a Retrofier™ Roadtripper Bass Glow™ pedal and George's vocal mic and violin into Glow Stic I™ mic processors. These inputs were fed into an analog mixer and from there, direct to a USB interface into a computer. The post production was very minimal and did not involve any editing of the takes beyond trimming the ends and fades etc.. A "looping" pedal was used in the live performance giving the apparent "overdubbing" effect.
